2012 Calendar
2011 has been a great year at CPS, but 2012 looks like it will be even better! Next year's match calendar has just been uploaded.
Some points of interest are the Oregon State USPSA Championships that we will be hosting in May and the Major Three-Gun match in July. Also note that Three-Gun matches have become part of our regular lineup! We will be having one every month starting next summer.
Here's looking to a great year of shooting!

Mixed Steel - Dec. 17
Our last match of 2011, a Mixed Steel match, will be held this Saturday, December 17. It will consist of 6 stages, two of which will be shotgun, the remainder will be pistol. Plan on 120 rounds of pistol and 25 shotgun rounds. Bill Garland will be Match Director for three stages and Tom Allen will be the MD for the remaining three. The match fee will be $10 for those who show up early to help and $15 for late arrivals. Set-up will begin at 9 am with the match beginning at 10 am. Bring warm clothing and a thermos full of hot soup sounds just about right. A good match to test the new facility extension on Bay 3. The stove and benches should be finished and ready to use.

This is in appreciation of the shooters who came out on a regular basis and who supported the club during the past year. Don't say we never gave you the bird.

USPSA Match Results
We had another great match today. Good group of folks, perfect weather and Bill Garland did his usual stellar job of being a Match Director. Overall winner of the match was Bill. Interestingly, and this is great, of the seven stages we had five stage winners. Bill took stages one and five, Mark took two and six, Kurt Solomon took Stage 3, Landon Rasmussen took Stage 4 and Pieter Vanden Berg took Stage 7. Now that is a mix of talent if I ever saw it. Love the fact we have so many folks winning stages. Many thanks to all who came out to set up and to those who tore down.
Our next match will be Sunday, October 16th, the last IDPA match of the year. Starting next month we will be going to two matches per month, both steel. Don't forget the third Saturday of November, our Turkey Shoot, where we give away $25 gift certificates via random drawing in appreciation of your attendance and support at the matches this year.
We still need a Project Manager to take care of the weather cover extension in Bay 3. Anyone interested should step forward. It appears we will get funds from COSSA. This is a project that has gotten a lot of enthusiasm in the past but the desire to see it through seems to have waned once we get close to having to do the work. Someone please volunteer to head up this effort. We should be able to do the entire project in one day.
Shoot straight and be safe.

Three-Gun Match Results
Well, the final three gun match scheduled for this year is history. What a day it was. The weather was relatively
cool but the action was hot. Three carbine stages, one out to 300 yards, two pistol and two shotgun stages. A lot of
variety and a good test of shooting skills. Overall winner was Alex Goodrich, second was Ryan Fraker and third was
Tom Allen. Check here for the full results.
A special welcome to Cole Wilcox and Josh Van Heusen, shooters who first joined us today. Come on back anytime
and shoot with us. All in all, a very successful day, we all played safely and everyone went home with a big grin. It doesn't get much
better than that.

Three Gun Match - Aug 28
We will have a three gun match this Sunday, August 28. It will consist of seven stages: three carbine with distances ranging from point blank out to 300 yards, two shotgun, and three pistol. The round count is 62 rifle, 56 pistol, 24 birdshot and 2 rifled slugs. We will have Open, Tactical and Limited Divisions which in abbreviated terms consist of guns with compensators and optical sights on both rifle or shotgun or pistol or any combination, an optical sight on the carbine only and iron sights only on all weapons, respectively.
Ammo restrictions are: no steel core 223 or AK ammo. No green tip rounds. No tracer rounds. For the birdshot, lead is required and No. 6 shot is the largest permitted. The minimum pistol caliber is 9mm, 223 for the carbine and 20 guage for the shotgun.
The match fee will be $20 to cover the cost of the many targets, tape, etc. Set-up will begin at 7:30 am and the hope is that we will have a good, early turnout as setup will take a little longer than usual. We hope to start the safety briefing at 9 am sharp.
The weather is supposed to be great. Bring plenty of hydration, sunscreen, etc. These matches typically take a little longer than a standard IPSC or IDPA match so plan on an extra hour or two for the match. Please plan on sticking around after the match to tear down the stages.
A final thought: "Peace is that brief moment in time when everyone is reloading."

Soldier of Misfortune Match - July 30
On Saturday, July 30th, we will have a six stage Carbine / Pistol match. Plan on four stages of carbine and two of pistol or some mixture of the two. One of the stages will take place adjacent to the Buffalo Range on the 500 meter Black Powder Silhouette Range. The maximum distance will be 275 yards or so for carbines and 75 yards for 22 lr targets. Scoring will be Vickers. For those of you who do not have a carbine, a 22 lr rifle will be acceptable although your scoring will be treated as a separate match and reported as such.
Plan on a round count of 125 max for the carbine and 75 for the pistol portion. For the pistol, 9mm will be the minimum caliber allowed. No steel core/green-tip ammo as we will not wish to damage our steel and we will check ammo before the match with a magnet. You will be responsible for damages to targets if such ammo gets through our screening. Our regular safety rules for long guns and pistols will apply. Set-up will begin at 7:30 am on Saturday morning and the match will start promptly at 9 am. The match fee will be $20 for all participants, no discounts for showing up on time to set-up. The price will be due to the number of targets, tape, etc. we will need to use for the match. Hope you can make it.

USPSA Classifier Match Results
What a great match Walt Angle put on today. Seventeen shooters having a great time at the COSSA range. We welcomed three new shooters to our match... these were Rick and Brendon Miller and Brenda Allen. Also, the prodigal son, Rob Guinta reappeared after many months and we were forced to kill the fatted calf in celebration of his return.
Chuck Mazzola took top honors with his Open gun, shooting faster than a speeding bullet. We had so many Divisions and Classifications today that I will not attempt to get into who did what to who. Just look at the overall results and each of the stages to see who accomplished what at the match. Also, check out Mark Sue's hatcam video from the match.
Our next event will be an IDPA Classifier match on July 12 beginning around 5 pm in Bays 3 and 5. The match fee will be $5 per gun per iteration and the round count for each time you shoot it will be 90, exactly. Shoot it twice with two guns and it will cost you $20. The event after that will be the monthly IDPA. Hope to see you there.

CPS Work Day - This Saturday, June 18
It's that time again! We need to put in some sweat equity at the range. On Saturday, June 18, we will be doing some general clean-up, painting of props, cutting of wood scraps for next winter's firewood, reorganizing of "stuff", etc. It would be helpful if you could show up in grubby work clothes, bring a pair of gloves, your lunch, etc. We will have paint, rollers, plastic garbage bags, etc. for everyone's use. I have a list of some 18 items that we need to accomplish, many of which are not time consuming but needing to be done.
If someone could bring a chop saw (for cutting up scrap 2x4's and other lumber for firewood) and a ladder which would allow us access to the roof on one of our weather shelters (we need to paint over the white metal roof with a color which will fit in with the landscape) it would be appreciated. We will have a COSSA generator there for power.
Start time will be 8:30 am and we will run until we get done.....hopefully around 1:30 or so.
These items are strictly CPS related and will not count toward a reduction in COSSA dues for 2012. Sorry. We will try and get an extension to our Bay 3 weather shelter this fall so we can shoot from under cover this winter. That effort will count toward COSSA dues credits.
Hope you can make it. Many hands will make short work of it all. -Tom

Two-Gun Match Results
And a beautiful day it was. Dell Hackett took top honors over Tom by less than one percentage point. Paul Marshall took both carbine stages with his 10/22. We welcomed Clark Goetz from the Portland area to his first match here at CPS. Clark is welcome back any time. A good guy to shoot with and a safe shooter. The full results can be viewed here.
The next event is the IDPA Classifier on Tuesday evening, June 14th. The match fee is only $5. The event will start at 5 pm and run until around 8 pm. We will have two bays set up this time and attempt to run parallel matches to expedite the process and minimize stand-around time which is always frustrating to all. Hope you can make it.
Thanks for coming out today.

June Calendar
Going into June, we have a couple of calendar changes to be aware of: 1) The IPSC match scheduled for the 11th will be an IPSC Two Gun match, carbine and pistol. Shooters may use a 22lr for the carbine portion if they so desire. 2) The 3 Gun match indicated for Sunday, the 12th, has been rescheduled for August 28th. 3) This month's IDPA match will have a couple of shotgun stages. For those who do not shoot shotgun, we will hold the shotgun portion as stages 5 and 6 so they will not have to wait for the bulk of the shooters to complete that portion.
For all matches in June, set-up starts at 7:30 am with the safety briefing kicking off at 9 am. Those who show up by 7:40 to help get $5 knocked off of the match fee.
The Combat Pistol class scheduled by OPFT for the 25th and 25th still has openings. For COSSA members the cost is only $190 for the two day class, an $85 savings over the regular price. Go to opfirearms.com for more information.

Upcoming Events
Our next event will be on Saturday the 21st. It will be a shooting drill day with carbine, shotgun and pistol drills. We will follow all safety rules and the extent to which we will be able to have all three disciplines will depend on the Range Officer/Safety Officer turnout. The price $5 per person. The round count will be dependent on how much trigger time each person wishes to have. So, bring your weapon(s) of choice and practice, practice, practice. Start time will be 10 am and we will go until around 1 pm. Set-up will start at 9 am.
On the 24th, a Tuesday, we will have an IDPA Classifier Match starting at 5 pm for the non-working early birds. We shoot until around 8 pm when the light begins to go away so come on out after 5 if work precludes an earlier start. The fee is only $5, there is a round count of exactly 90 rounds and it is a lot of fun. This event will conclude the CPS fun for the month of May. Stay tuned for more fun, June through December.
