Before all else, be sure to go through our Safety process.
When participating in a pistol competition it is not neccessary to have expensive specialized equipment. We suggest attending a few matches before purchasing your equiptment. If you plan on competing on a regular basis you will need the following:
1) Serviceable pistol or revolver with holster and a minimum of 2 spare magazines in belt mounted pouches (5 magazines are suggested).
2) Eye and hearing protection.
3) For IDPA you will need a cover garment such as a vest or jacket.
4) Enough ammunition to complete the competition (150-200 rounds is suggested).
5) For your first match, generally we will have equipment available to supplement what you bring. Please contact us for specific match requirements on ammunition and round requirements.
One need not spend a fortune on guns to participate and have a great time. In fact, for many matches, a 22 revolver or semi-auto is perfectly acceptable. Kids are welcome provided they are mature enough to follow rules and are accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Weapons used by CPS shooters run the gamut from stock Glocks, Springfield XD’s, 1911’s and revolvers up to extremely expensive specialized weapons. Shotguns are predominately Remington 870s/1100’s or equivalent. Rifles are generally AR's or AK's. For Rimfire Steel, the competitor will need a .22lr pistol and rifle. The pistol can be either a revolver or semi-automatic and the rifle can be a semi-automatic, lever action or bolt action.
Also, please be aware of our range and match fee information.
New people who wish to shoot with us are required to do the following:
1) Study our Safety Manual
2) Take the Safety Exam and bring it with them to their first match
3) If intending to shoot long-guns, read our Long-Gun Manual
At the match, they will be given a Safety Briefing followed by assignment of a match mentor. Safety is first. Everything else is secondary. If you do not go through this process, you will not shoot.
