COSSA Practical Shooting is a subgroup of the greater COSSA association. Located just east of Bend, Oregon, our specific emphasis is on those skills which would be considered "practical" in a self-defense / home defense scenario. Our objective is to develop safe shooters who have an interest in improving such skills. Toward that end, we host multiple matches and instructional sessions of various disciplines throughout the year.
USPSA - This discipline focuses on the balance of speed and accuracy. Through creative stage design, shooters are encouraged to find the quickest and most accurate way to engage multiple targets. Various props such as rooms, vehicles, fences, barricades, barrels, etc. are utilized to prevent interesting challenges. Primarily a pistol discipline, we have begun incorporating carbines into our USPSA matches. Learn more
IDPA - Similar to USPSA matches but requires conformance to what would be used in a concealed carry/defensive mode. Cover must be used and scenarios more closely approximate what might be expected in a self-defense situation. Accuracy is also more heavily emphasized. Learn more
Mixed Steel - Pure, fast shooting. Targets are steel plates, poppers, plate racks and other steel target configurations. This is excellent training in gun handling skills, accuracy and speed. Our Mixed Steel matches usually involve both pistol and shotgun stages
Three-Gun - Carbine, Pistol, and Shotgun. These matches are designed to develop a well rounded shooter who is proficient at multiple firearms. Stage designs vary from close-quarter engagements to long-range accuracy challenges. More information on Three Gun
Rimfire Steel - Similar to Mixed Steel matches but focused on .22lr caliber weapons. These matches consist of .22 pistol and rifle stages. View this document for more information on Rimfire Steel.
Match Fees
Fees may vary for special matches, but in general we charge:
USPSA - $15
IDPA - $20
Three Gun- $20
Mixed Steel - $15
Juniors are always half price. If you arrive 1.5 hours before match time to help setup, your fee is reduced by $5.
Facilities
The CPS matches and practices at COSSA generally use bays #2 through #6 at our facility. We have access to other pistol bays as well as several rifle bays with ranges from 100 to 1000 yards as needed. Our primary bays have weather shelters with wood stoves for shade in the summer and protection from the elements in the winter. During the winter months, the stoves are a most welcome addition. We have two shoot houses, in bay #4 and bay #6, which are used to provide a bit of realism to many of our self-defense type field courses.
Our targets include paper, steel plates, steel poppers, auto resetting steel poppers, a plate rack, a Texas Star, swingers, reactive rifle targets, turners, clamshells, a few forward falling poppers and sufficient props such as walls, barrels and barricades to make the matches interesting. As finances allow, we continue to add to our "stash" of goodies. We have a great facility for practical shooting and are proud of what we have established.

New people who wish to shoot with us are required to do the following:
1) Study our Safety Manual
2) Take the Safety Exam and bring it with them to their first match
3) If intending to shoot long-guns, read our Long-Gun Manual
At the match, they will be given a Safety Briefing followed by assignment of a match mentor. Safety is first. Everything else is secondary. If you do not go through this process, you will not shoot.
